Set up a microphone through Winamp

This guide assumes you have already set up Winamp and AltaCast for live broadcasting. If you have not, follow the Winamp and Icecast guide first.

FreeWinamp

Get Winamp here if you have not installed it yet.

Get it

Steps

  1. Open Winamp and the AltaCast plugin window, and click Connect on your encoder to start the live broadcast.
  2. In the encoder list, find the Live Recording option for your encoder and click it, then choose your microphone or sound card as the input device.
  3. Speak, and check that the encoder’s level meter moves. Winamp’s music is replaced by your input while Live Recording is on.
  4. If you want music and voice together, use a mixer, or use Mixxx, which mixes your microphone with your music for you.
  5. When you finish, click Disconnect to close the live stream. Your AutoDJ resumes automatically.
Good to know
  • Wear headphones if you can hear yourself on the speakers, to avoid feedback.

Use Push to Talk when you want the microphone on only while you speak, or Lock to keep it on.
